About PaperPort image (.max) items 
For compatibility reasons, PaperPort fully supports its native file format, PaperPort Image (.max) but is able to work with many industry-standard formats such as PDF, JPEG, and TIFF as well.
If you want to share PaperPort Image (.max) files with others via sending them as e-mail attachments, be sure recipients have the necessary applications to view such files.
