About tab-and-ribbon user interfaces
From the version 12 of Nuance PaperPort, the user interfaces of its components (PaperPort Desktop, Image View), as well as its separate viewer programs ImageViewer and PDF Viewer Plus have been changed from the traditional menu-submenu-toolbar structure to a tab-and-ribbon presentation, as in the Windows Vista operating system or in Microsoft Office 2007 products.
Advantages offered by tab-and-ribbon type user interfaces:
-
Interfaces have a unified look and feel for different working environments.
-
A comprehensive set of possible commands, features, functions and choices can be viewed at a glance.
-
Commands that can typically be used for fulfilling specific tasks are collected into named groups.
-
Command names are always displayed next to the associated tools (button, icon, checkbox, radio button, etc.).
-
Buttons of frequently used commands, even from different command groups, can be collected to a flexibly customizable Quick Access Toolbar.
-
Further tabs with their ribbons can sometimes be displayed dynamically to provide a set commands most useful for performing the current task.
See About PaperPort ribbons and bars for a precise listing of all ribbons and tool groups and Elements of the user interface to understand how to transition from previous PaperPort version to the new one.
