If you are using PaperPort Professional, you can convert text documents to PDF files in the PDF Formatted Text & Graphics (PDF Normal) format, using the service of Nuance PDF Create. This program can be started from many locations, as described in About creating PDF files.

You can convert your documents from the PaperPort program — or, if you are using Office 2000, 2003 or 2007 with Windows XP or Vista, directly from the Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook or Internet Explorer programs. This method lets you quickly create the PDF file without changing the default printer for your Office programs.

By default, Word documents are named Word Document.pdf and Excel documents are named Excel Document.pdf. If necessary, PaperPort appends a number to the name to make the file unique in the current folder.

You can use the Print to PaperPort feature to print a file to PaperPort as a new PDF file in the current PaperPort folder. The current folder is always the most recently opened folder.

From the PaperPort program

  1. Select the text document on the PaperPort desktop or display the document in the Image Viewer window.

  2. Click on the PaperPort button and choose PaperPort printer Creating PDF files from text documents Print.

  3. In the Print dialog box, select ScanSoft PDF Create! in the printer list.

  4. (Optional) Click Properties if you want to change any of the default settings for the print driver. You can set the page size, orientation, compression, and destination values.

  5. Click OK.

You can also drag the document onto your Nuance PDF program icon in the Send To Bar, for a direct conversion using current settings.

From Office programs (2000, 2003, XP)

  1. Open the file in the source program: Word or Excel.

  2. On the File menu, click Print to PaperPort (PDF).

    — or —

On the standard toolbar, click the PaperPort createpdf small Creating PDF files from text documents button.

This can also be done from Office 2007 applications. See the section on PDF creation in the PDF Viewer Plus help for detail.

Note:

These Nuance PDF controls appear in Office application toolbars or ribbons only if the checkmark ‘Install all Nuance PDF Office Add-ins” was selected in the installer screen ‘Choose Destination Locations’. Processing via the Print menu is always available.

From other programs

  1. On the File menu of the program, click Print.

  2. In the Print dialog box, select ScanSoft PDF Create! in the printer list.

  3. Click Properties if you want to change settings for the print driver. You can set the page size, orientation, compression, and destination values.

  4. Click OK.

Tip

You can use the Save As feature to convert image items to the PDF format. For details, see Converting an image item to a different format.
