Selecting and viewing items in the Image View window
To select an item
Before you can work with an item, you must first select its item thumbnail on the PaperPort desktop. A red line appears around an item to indicate that it is selected.
-
To select an item, click its thumbnail.
-
To select multiple items, hold down the Ctrl key as you click each thumbnail.
-
To deselect an item, click another item or click anywhere else on the desktop. When multiple items are selected, hold down the Ctrl key and click each item you want to deselect.
Tips
Another way to select multiple items is to draw a box around the items on the desktop. First, position the mouse in an empty area of the desktop. Hold down the mouse button, drag the mouse to draw a box around the items, and then release the mouse button.
To select or deselect all items, click Select All or Deselect All on the Edit ribbon.
To view an item
To view an item in the Image View window when it is displayed on the PaperPort desktop, do one of the following:
-
Select the item and choose an opening mode on the Desktop ribbon, from the Open group:
-
-
Open (depending on settings on the PaperPort Options, Desktop tab)
-
Open with Image View
-
Open with … (select an associated program from the list)
-
-
Right-click the item and choose one of the above listed opening options
-
Depending on settings on the PaperPort Options, Desktop tab, double-click the PaperPort image item.
Tip
To change the default behavior when you double-click items on the PaperPort desktop, click on the PaperPort button, choose Options, and then click the Desktop tab.
To select an area on a page
You can select a part of an image item or a PDF document page displayed in Image View and use it for different purposes.
- On the Edit ribbon, choose Select the Whole Image. A dashed box is drawn around the page and the pointer changes to a crosshair pointer.
- Use the whole page for the desired purpose or, with your left mouse button held down, draw a dashed box around the area you want to use.
- Choose the command buttons to carry out desired operations as follows:
-
- for image items: Cut or Copy to Clipboard, and then Paste or Paste as Annotation
-
for PDF document pages: Copy Text and then, after OCR processing, use it as an attribute of the item in the Properties dialog box or paste it into a word processing application.
To navigate within a folder
Files within a folder can be sorted by name, by type, by size, or by date. While you are viewing an item selected in the Desktop view, you do not have to leave the Image View to display other files from the same folder:
- Choose Previous Desktop Item on the View ribbon to display the next file located closer to the top of the file structure within the actual folder, or
- Choose Next Desktop Item on the View ribbon to display the next file located closer to the bottom of the file structure within the actual folder.
Before switching to the adjacent item, PaperPort asks you whether you want to save changes (if any) to the current item.
