Settings – Scanning Profile
To access this, open the Scan pane, choose a profile and click the Settings button.
In the Settings – Scanning Profile dialog box, you can specify a profile name, the naming convention and file type for documents and other items that you scan to the PaperPort desktop. You can also use this dialog box to improve the image quality and adjust scanning settings.
In the Profile tab:
-
The chosen profile name appears. Change it if you wish.
In the SET tab:
-
Create single page items – select this to save each page in a separate file.
-
Blank page is job separator – select this to create a new document each time a blank page is detected among the scanned pages.
-
Auto-straighten – select this to perform automatic straightening of the scanned image to remedy any skew caused by scanning. This is designed for use with pages containing text.
-
Auto-orient – select this to perform automatic orientation (rotation) of the scanned image to remedy any problem of upside down pages.
-
Auto-enhance – select this to perform automatic enhancement of the scanned image.
-
Delete Blank Pages – select this to automatically detect whether the scanned image is blank or not. Blank pages will be deleted at the end of the process, when PaperPort has assembled the final document. It runs independently of whether blank pages were used as separators or not. If blank-page separation created a set of documents, each will have a blank page at the end. This control can be used to either retain or drop them.
-
Erase Edges – select this to erase the edges of the scanned image by setting the border area to white. You can specify the border-area measurements in the Erase Edges Settings dialog box.
-
Auto-crop – select this to auto-crop the scanned image using the specified margin values. The area of interest will be determined by automatic zone detection as a rectangle. This rectangle will be padded with small/medium/large margins – depending on the selected option in the Auto-crop Settings dialog box. Then the image will be cropped to this padded rectangle. Cropping will not be performed if automatic zone detection returns no zones.
-
Resize Page – select this to change the dimensions of the scanned image in the Resize Page Settings dialog box. You can resize an image to
-
a predefined page size
-
a custom page size
-
or a relative percent value.
The following page sizes are supported: Letter, A3, A4, A5, B5 and B6. The availability of predefined page sizes depends on the scanner’s maximum supported size. The custom page size has to be larger than 1 inch x 1 inch (25 mm x 25 mm) and smaller than that of an A3 sheet. The percent value has to be between 1 and 999%.
In the Output tab:
-
In the Name box, enter text you want to use to name newly scanned items or choose from several different date formats.
PaperPort uses a numbering scheme to ensure that items have unique names. The Suffix label tells you the default numbering scheme in effect. (The numbering scheme is set in the Items tab under Options on the Tools menu.) PaperPort will consecutively number each new item according to the default numbering scheme; for example, Document (2), Document (3), and so on, when the suffix is ( n).
Item names will be generated from name and suffix. They may also contain a prefix. Current date can be used either as an item name, or as a prefix or a suffix.
Either prefix or suffix must contain a sequential numbering scheme, so it has to be one of the following: (n), n, nn, nnn, nnnn or nnnnn. If this is not the case, the program sends you a warning.
This table summarizes available values for the Prefix, Name, Suffix and Name separator fields:

-
Add to All-in-One Index – the scanned item will automatically be added to the All-in-One Index. If not selected, you can add this document to the index manually later at any time.
-

Tips
Click on the PaperPort button, choose Options, and then click the Advanced tab to adjust the image quality for PaperPort Image (.max) files.
Click on the PaperPort button, choose Options, and then click the Items tab to set the default numbering scheme,
In the Suffix field, select ( n) if you want PaperPort to append numeric suffixes such as (2), (3), and so on; for example, Document (2), Document (3), and Document (4). The digit settings — nn, nnn, and so on — enable you to create names that are easily sorted in file lists. Select nn for two leading digits, nnn for three leading digits, and so on. For example, select nn to name items Image 01, Image 02, and Image 03 — or, select nnn to name items Image 001, Image 002, and Image 003.
In the Scan tab:
