Interacting with an FTP site

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a popular format for transmitting electronic files between networked computers. Many companies use FTP to provide a variety of Internet services for their customers. An Internet or intranet site that provides FTP services is commonly referred to as an FTP site.

PaperPort software includes an PaperPort ftp Interacting with an FTP site FTP program link on the Send To bar:


You can use this program link to:

  • Copy files to an FTP site

  • Get files from an FTP site

  • View the contents of FTP site folders if you have appropriate access rights

Note

Before you can use the FTP program, you need to know the FTP site address, your user name at the site, and the password needed to access the site.

 
 

To copy files to an FTP site

If you have access to an FTP site, you can use the FTP program on the Send To bar to copy files to that site. Follow these steps:

  1. On the PaperPort desktop, select and then drag one or more files to the FTP program on the Send To bar.

    The FTP Logon dialog box appears. The first time you use the FTP program, you must specify logon information. Thereafter, the information appears automatically.
     

  2. In the FTP Logon dialog box:

  • In the Host name box, enter the FTP address; for example, ftp.companyname.com.

  • In the User name box, enter your user name for the FTP site.

  • In the Password box, enter the password you use to access the FTP site.

    Then, click the Logon button. 

3.   In the FTP Link dialog box, browse to and then select the folder where you want to put the files.  
 

4.   Click Put Files to copy the selected files to the FTP site.

 

To get files from an FTP site

If you have access to an FTP site, you can use the FTP program on the Send To bar to get files from that site. Follow these steps:

  1. On the PaperPort Send To bar, right-click the FTP program, and then click Get File.

  2. Enter the necessary information in the FTP Logon dialog box as described above.
     

  3. In the FTP Link dialog box, browse to and then select the folder that contains the files you want to retrieve.

    To browse to a folder higher in the folder tree, click “..” in the Host folder list.

  4. Select the files you want to get.

  5. Click Get Files.

PaperPort retrieves the selected files and displays them on the PaperPort desktop.
