Scanner Setup Wizard
Normally you do not need to open the Scanner Setup Wizard. Run it only if you have any problem with scanning.
To start the Wizard

Click Scan Settings on the Desktop ribbon.

Click the Select button in the Scan or Get Photo pane. The Available Scanners dialog box appears.

Click Advanced setup.

On the Start menu, point to (All) Programs, point to Nuance PaperPort, and then click Scanner Setup Wizard.

Start the Wizard from ScanDirect by right-clicking the Scan button.
The Scanner Setup Wizard appears.

If you have a web connection, the first panel invites you to update the scanner database containing optimum scanner settings for all known scanners. Choose Yes or No and click on Next. If you choose Yes, the Internet Connection dialog box will appear during the download from the Nuance web site.

If you have started the Wizard from ScanDirect, choose Select and test scanner or digital camera, then click Next. You see the scanner type you installed, or you may see a list of all previously selected scanner drivers, with the default scanner selected for PaperPort.

Choose Yes to test your scanner configuration only if it is recommended, then click Next. The wizard will now test the connection from the computer to your scanner. When completed, click on Next and then select the steps for testing and click Next again. If you want to skip testing, or if this is recommended, choose No.
Important
Unless it is absolutely necessary, do not choose to test your scanner configuration if No is recommended because this may overwrite pre-set hints causing your device not to function properly.

Insert a test page into your scanner. The wizard is now prepared to do a basic scan using your scanner manufacturer’s software. Click on Next. Your scanner’s native user-interface will appear.

Click on Scan to begin the sample scan.

If necessary, click on Missing Image or Improper Orientation and make the appropriate selections.

Once the image appears correctly in the window, click on Next.

Click on Next to proceed to the next test you requested.

You can test the paper sensor of your scanner’s ADF.

You can request a list of the page sizes that the Scanner Wizard believes that your scanner supports are listed in the window.

Insert a page with text into your scanner. Click on Next to begin a scan in black-and-white mode. If necessary, click on Inverse Image, Missing Image or Improper Orientation and make the appropriate selections. Once the image appears correctly in the window, click on Next.

Insert a photograph or a page containing a picture into your scanner. Click on Next to begin a scan in grayscale mode. If necessary, click on Inverse Image, Missing Image or Improper Orientation and make the appropriate selections. Once the image appears correctly in the window, click on Next.

If you have a color scanner, insert a color photograph or a page with a color picture into your scanner. Click on Next to begin a scan in color mode. If necessary, click on Inverse Image, Missing Image or Improper Orientation and make the appropriate selections. Once the image appears correctly in the window, click on Next. If color scanning does not succeed, you will get an error message.

You have now modified your scanner settings for use with PaperPort. Click on Finish.
To test and repair an improperly functioning scanner, open the Scanner Wizard and choose ‘Select and test scanner or digital camera’ in the second panel, then work through the procedure described above.
To retest a scanner at a later time, reopen the Scanner Wizard.
To get updated database data

Start the Scanner Wizard as described above.

Choose Yes then Next to download the database.

Select ‘Use current settings with current device’.

Click Next, then Finish.
